YOSUKE KAMEKURA (1915-1997) [JAPAN ADVERTISING ART CLUB EXHIBITION.] 1956.
401/2x281/2 inches.
Condition B+: creases in image. Paper.
Kamekura was inspired to become a graphic designer when he discovered the work of Cassandre, and he went on to dedicate the rest of his life to his craft. He can be considered the godfather of modern Japanese graphism, founding the Nippon Design Center (in 1960) and serving as president of JAGDA (the Japanese Graphic Design Association) for over 20 years. He won awards for graphic design throughout the world and was honored by the Japanese themselves in 1965, when they claimed him as a sacred treasure. This rare poster, from early in his career, is very important as it establishes his use of abstract kinetic images, which he began to use more frequently in the 1960s. Kamekura 10.
